Teaching Philosophy

Coaching basketball is teaching

Successful coaches not only teach the fundamentals of the game, they awaken a passion in their students for the game and for life. Great coaches provide the skills and inspire the confidence needed to succeed. We believe our enthusiastic and upbeat approach to coaching creates the perfect environment for fostering that passion, skill and confidence. All JTH coaches are NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) & First Aid certified. The safety of our players is paramount.

Impact Young People

We are in the unique position of being able to positively impact young lives. We never lose sight of this. Young people are looking for guidance. We mentor them by operating with integrity in an atmosphere that builds confidence and trust.

JTH treats all players with respect. Everyone is important individually and as members of the program. Our end goal is to help youth develop character while focusing on priorities like family, school and basketball. The coach-player relationship is a vital cornerstone to successful coaching.

Prepare the Player

Preparation is key to successful play. Preparing a player for game scenarios is more important than any court side game coaching “wizardry”. Good coaching may help determine the outcome of a closely played game, but preparation is much more important. We teach kids the correct fundamentals and individual skills development that prepare them for the game.

Our training sessions are highly competitive and very intense. Our goal is to make the practice much tougher than the game itself.  We encourage all players to go game speed during training sessions.
